Following on from last weeks video update, today I'm sharing what I consider to be a classic, must-see natural hair documentary from the UK - Kickin' It With The Kinks.
You might be wondering why I'm talking about this documentary again considering I've been talking about it for the last 3 years (at least). Well, prior to this year you could only see clips of the film on the net, but the entire documentary by Cynthia Butare finally became available online in February.
(Yep this is another late update, but again, better late than never, and this film is well worth sharing!)

There are many familiar faces in this film and some brilliant
interviews. It's great to see just how far many of us naturals here in
the UK have come. There are a couple of shots of me that have reassured
me of my own progress over the last few years.
The documentary originally started off as a university project back in 2011. It still amazes me that Cynthia had no experience in film-making, because I personally consider KIWTK to be one of the best documentaries on Black hair. Admittedly I'm biased, but it stands to reason that I would be. It's not hard to name American documentaries about Black hair, but to hear the voices and opinions of Black women here in the UK, is a lot less common. Consequently KIWTK remains an incredibly important and ground-breaking piece of work.
